Have you ever found a nursing top that you loved?
While the little clips are definitely functional, I always feel so frumpy wearing them. And frumpy does not help the postpartum blues, let me tell you.
Breastfeeding can be so convenient, but when you haven’t found the tops in which its easy to nurse your baby, breastfeeding all of a sudden feels stressful and overwhelming.
I struggled to find shirts that made nursing easy for the long haul. I either felt too exposed or too shabby, not to mention feeling wasteful for not having a longterm use for my stretched-out, tired nursing shirts.
When I came across this top (pictured below) from J. Crew when my first baby was five months old, I knew what I needed to look for in tops if I was going to be breastfeeding:
- A low-ish neckline
- Loose enough without looking like a potato sack
- Able to be pulled up or down
- Buttons are good but not a necessity
- Able to be paired well with leggings or jeans
- Roomy enough to fit shortly after baby is born but still look nice even after breastfeeding ends (this will give you the most bang for your buck!)
- Fits well with a tank top underneath
- Not made exclusively for nursing (more stylish that way)
As moms, we have other people on our minds non-stop, all the time. When I took the time to pick out a “nursing top” that I actually liked, I felt so much better about myself.
This little way of taking care of me while fully providing for my babe helped me continue breastfeeding for well over a year.
If you’re going to be breastfeeding and want to stick with it for several months, I think that having a few go-to nursing tops will set you up for success. This is especially true if you ever feel self-conscious nursing in public (I did!).
Here are 8 more great tops that look awesome and work really well if you’re breastfeeding.
Two side notes: I usually wear a tank top and just a regular bra underneath them. These tops are not technically made as nursing tops. BUT, I found them to work and look better than any specifically-designed nursing top.
