Hello Maria
I’ve just discovered Bikram and have done 9 classes in 14 days. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done (physically) and I’m struggling. I am 56 years of age and was/am very unfit. I know this is doing me good but yesterday I had the class from hell! In spite of being well hydrated I felt completely exhausted. After just 35 minutes I desperately wanted to leave. I didnt leave but I hated every moment. I don’t feel like I’m getting used to the heat at all and I also can only attempt about half of the poses. I can see the benefits but can’t see how I can keep this going long term if it doesn’t get a little easier soon. Do you have any advice please? I am in the UK and I find the way you write so motivating. Thank you!
Gill
Hi Gill! Without knowing you or ever seeing you practice, I would recommend reallly pacing yourself in class, especially in the standing series. Think 40-50% effort, no more. The Bikram class is like a big long marathon, not a sprint. You know the fable the tortoise and the hare? Be the tortoise every single time!
